A pneumatic tyre is a tyre that is inflated with pressurised air.

  • In 1847, the Scottish engineer Robert William Thomson invented the pneumatic tyre.
  • Here are a few drawings from his patent application depicting his invention:

The tyre was made out of sulphurized natural rubber or gutta-percha.
