A hypodermic needle is a hollow needle used in medical syringes to inject fluids into the body or draw fluids from it.

  • Around 1010, the Iraqi ophthalmologist Abu al-Qasim Ammar Ali ibn al-Mawsili created a hollow metallic needle in order to extract cataracts from the eye by suction. In doing so, he invented the hypodermic needle.
