definition
Cholera is an infection of the small intestine caused by some strains of the bacterium Vibrio cholerae.
INVENTION
The Spanish bacteriologist Jaime Ferrán i Clúa invented the cholera vaccine in 1885 by using the following method:
- First, a sample of the bacteria was mixed with broth in a flask.
- The culture (growth of bacteria in nutrient media) was completed after 6 hours at 37 degrees Celsius.
- Once the mixture became cloudy, it was ready to be injected as a vaccine
